The New Mentality Can Help You Engage Youth in Your Agency!
The New Mentality , in partnership with East Metro Youth Services, provides a 6-hour Training program on Youth Engagement Theory & Practice.
The purpose of this workshop is to increase the ability of staff to work within a Youth Engagement model in their programs, services and governance structures.
Young people involved in making decisions about the programs and organizations that affect them bring benefits to the youth and to the organizations. Programs operating within a Youth Engagement model have better uptake and outcomes for participants and organizations who adopt the model are more youth-friendly and have a better relationship to the communities they serve. Furthermore, current research indicates that youth engagement offers a variety of positive outcomes for youth including lower rates of substance use, lower levels of depression, a huge reduction in dropout rates in school, higher academic performance and lower rates of conflict with the law, particularly for youth who have been categorized as “high risk”. (Centre for Excellence in Youth Engagement, 2003)
The training will be based in best practices and current research from The New Mentality and the RISE and Violence Intervention Project from East Metro Youth Services. A New Mentality Youth Leader will also participate in the training to provide his/her insight into effective practices of Youth Engagement.
